Dr. Mary Shoenfeldt deployed to Eugene, Oregon to support individuals who rescued animals from the flames. In a deployment update on the Green Cross website, she wrote,

“I can tell you that the rescuers would sometimes be huddled in the bathrooms crying about what they experienced that day – declaring they could not go back out there. Our specialized support kept the number of animal rescuers up. We also did suicide and crisis intervention on several individuals that were likely to endanger themselves, their teammates, and the animals being rescued. Our crisis intervention helped reduce stress and moderate emotions for the well being and professionalism of the rescuers.”

Susan Pease Banitt, a Portland resident, is hosting an online support group for physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health professionals.
